The book chosen this month to review is
Overcoming Overeating by Jane R. Hirschmann and Carol
H. Munter 1988
Although, this is not the latest book by authors Jane
R. Hirschmann and Carol H. Munter, I chose this book because
of the impact it had on CRNTime Cyber B&B and Spa. This
is the only, lifestyle - out look on food…way of eating…'diet'
if you must hear that word to acclimate the theory prescribed
by the authors, that you will ever find, here at CROSSROADS
INN TIME, B&B and Spa.
I am sure you will find it controversial, as did I, at
first. However after looking at it and shedding the baggage
acquired from a lifetime of media and social pressure,
and then looking at it again, it makes perfect sense.
Overcoming Overeating, could single handedly change Western
eating habits, and how we look at food and our selves.
Food is a pleasant, necessity of life. It is not an enemy.
And "diet" is the worse four-letter word I know. I am
not, repeat not, advocating-neither does the book- self
abuse with food. However, this book takes us quite literally
to the beginning of Western civilization's weight and
eating disorders. Diet.
I recommend this book to all, male/female, young/old,
thin/not so thin. For those who have been on the yo-yo
battle of the bulge and yearn for a way to bring the war
to a victorious end- this book is for you. For those who
themselves have no weight or food problem, but is in any
type of a relationship with someone who does-and that
covers 100% of the Western population- there is a message
here for you.
Now to get away from sounding like a commercial for Overcoming
Overeating, I will critique the writing, which is part
of any respected book review.
The book is well written and interesting enough to grab
your attention and keep it, while teaching a basic, yet
new for most of us, life style without becoming too technical.
I found few, if any contradictions and highly recommend
it. If I had found this book, instead of the dozens of
other diet books, that I did find, I dare say my old bathroom
scale would never have seen the numbers it did. In fact
that is the first thing to go. Your scales. Well, I'll
let you read the book for yourself, and I'd like to hear your comments.
